Sepura Unveils New SCL3: A Rugged Broadband Handheld for Mission-Critical Users
Coventry, UK, March 6, 2024 – Sepura, a leading provider of mission-critical communication solutions, unveiled the SCL3, its first rugged broadband hand-portable device, at the BAPCO Annual Event today.
The SCL3 joins Sepura’s existing SCU3 Hybrid Vehicle Device, further demonstrating their commitment to future-proofing critical communications. This new device empowers a smooth and cost-effective transition to Mission Critical Services (MCX) by offering a hybrid solution that bridges the gap between current and future technologies.
Flexibility and a Smooth Migration Path
The SCL3 offers the flexibility of being deployed as either LTE-only or in a hybrid configuration with TETRA and 4G/5G. This empowers users with a powerful tool to navigate the migration to mission-critical broadband. Additionally, the optional TETRA module provides a clear and sustainable migration path. Organizations can begin using TETRA TMO voice and LTE data and seamlessly transition to full MCX operations at their own pace, while still utilizing TETRA DMO for device-to-device communication.
Designed for Demanding Environments
Built with the needs of mission-critical users in mind, the SCL3 meets the ruggedness requirements outlined by NCCOM, the Nordic public safety network operators. It boasts features crucial for Public Protection and Disaster Relief (PPDR) personnel, such as physical buttons for Push-to-Talk (PTT) and emergency calls.
“We are thrilled to introduce the SCL3 at BAPCO and showcase it to the public safety sector,” said Peter Hudson, Chief Technology Officer at Sepura. “For customers planning their migration to LTE, the SCL3 offers a secure path towards MCX, allowing them to leverage broadband services while maintaining their current TETRA communication.”
Built to Last and Easy to Manage
The SCL3 is engineered to withstand harsh environments with fluctuating temperatures, humidity, and wet conditions. Additionally, its long lifecycle ensures continued support for hardware, software, chipset, and battery.
Furthermore, the SCL3 comes with a complete ecosystem of accessories, including chargers, audio equipment, carrying cases, and a car kit. It also integrates seamlessly with a Mobile Device Management (MDM) service, enabling comprehensive over-the-air device management and software provisioning for both TETRA and LTE functionalities.
“With over 20 years of experience serving public safety and other mission-critical users, Sepura remains dedicated to continuous development and investment in our hybrid portfolio and future technologies,” said Peter Hudson. “The SCL3 embodies this commitment, combining best practices, reliability, and cutting-edge technology to deliver unparalleled robustness, functionality, and a complete solution for the evolution of mission-critical communications.”
The SCL3 will be on display at the Sepura stand (D1) throughout the BAPCO Annual Event, held in Coventry from March 6-7, 2024.
