Sonim Technologies has just launched two new phones; the XP400 and XP100; designed for rugged use in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa (EMEA). This announcement was made at the IFA Show in Berlin, and the devices will hit the market in Q4 2024. Both phones cater to individuals who need more durable, reliable devices—whether for work in challenging conditions or everyday use.
Both the XP400 and XP100 are built to handle harsh conditions like dust, water, and drops. The devices meet industry-standard IP ratings and the US military’s MIL-Spec 810H. In addition to these, Sonim has applied its own Rugged Performance Standards (RPS), based on feedback from users who rely on their phones in extreme environments. This ensures the devices can resist damage from oil, chemicals, and punctures, making them suitable for even more demanding settings.

The XP400 is the more advanced model of the two, equipped with 5G connectivity and powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 chipset. It includes a 6.5-inch display, a dual-rear camera system, and MicroSD support for extra storage.
There’s also a programmable button, or “hot key,” that allows users to access tools or apps with a single touch. This phone offers a good balance between rugged durability and everyday performance, making it useful for those who need a tough phone that can also handle daily tasks.

For users who prefer simplicity, the XP100 is a basic 4G feature phone built for practicality. It’s IP68 and IPX9K rated, which means it can survive drops from up to 2 meters and resist water and dust exposure. The button phone comes with an 1800mAh battery and dual SIM slots.
This launch is part of Sonim’s ongoing effort to expand its presence in the rugged phone market across the EMEA region. There’s a growing demand in Europe for devices that combine durability with affordability, and Sonim seems to be targeting that niche with the XP400 and XP100. Ben Wood, an analyst at CCS Insight, noted that there’s a clear market for such products.
The XP400 5G and XP100 4G are expected to be available by the end of 2024 in EMEA markets. With their emphasis on durability, they are likely to appeal to both professionals and individuals who need reliable phones for tough environments, especially for the XP400, while folks who prefer a simpler lifestyle may be more interested in the XP100.
