Stellar-M6/M6E: New Crosscall Rugged Smartphone to be Announced Soon

Crosscall is gearing up to release two new rugged smartphones, the Stellar-M6 and Stellar-M6E, both of which are sequel models to the Stellar X5, targeting users who need a tough device that doesn’t compromise on key modern features.

From what we can see, the design language of both the current X5 and the upcoming M6-series looks very reminiscent, both on the rear and front. However, while the X5 came with a dot-notch display, the M6-series will have a U-shaped notch atop the screen.

And even though we are still learning more about the upcoming M6 series, it is worth noting that the Stellar X5 still remains the more-flagship model of the two, having a higher price tag than the upcoming M6. Also, the fact that the M6 will have a single rear camera and a more compact screen buttresses the fact that it is a more cheaper and affordable model than the current X5.

The leaked official renders also suggest that the Stellar-M6/M6E may be announced on October 16, which is about 11 days from today. Now, here’s a closer look at what we know so far about the upcoming M6 and M6E.

Pricing and Variants

The Stellar-M6 will be available in two configurations:

  • Stellar-M6E: 4GB RAM and 64GB storage at 399 euros.
  • Stellar-M6: 6GB RAM and 128GB storage at 499 euros.

Key features to expect

As far as specification goes, the Stellar-M6 series will run Android 14 out of the box, with a promise of four years of software updates (up to Android 18).

The devices are powered by a Qualcomm QCM4490 chipset, essentially a rugged-ready version of the Snapdragon 4 Gen 2, tuned for consistent performance in challenging environments.

While not a powerhouse, this chipset should provide solid everyday performance, especially for users prioritizing durability. Note that the current Crosscall Stellar X5 came with a more recent Qualcomm® QCM5430 which supports both Wi-Fi 6/6E standards.

The models will have a 6.1-inch display with a resolution of 720 x 1560 pixels, and up to 450 nits of brightness for outdoor use. As for the cameras, the phones will sport a single 50 MP main camera on the rear, and an 8 MP front camera.

There will be a 4500mAh battery on both models, and some sort of fast charging technology should be supported as well, even though it is not explicitly stated.

As for durability, the Stellar M6-series will be true to Crosscall’s reputation, coming with IP68 and MIL-STD-810G certifications that guarantee protection against water, dust, and shock.

As expected, the models are anything but lightweight, measuring 165.8 x 78 x 12.3 mm and weighing 239 grams, a supposed trade-off for the enhanced protection. Just for context, Google’s Pixel 9 with a slightly larger 6.3-inches screen and a 4700mAh battery, still comes in a shrunken 8.5mm body. But pointless it is since both phones are in different leagues entirely.

This will support wireless charging and file transfers without the hassle of cables. Additionally, X-Blocker mounts make it possible to attach the phone in various ways for bikers, hikers, or those who need a chest-mounted camera for hands-free use.
