Our Rating

The rating below is a collection of user reviews and expert opinions from our in-house writers and other reviewers across the web.

7
  • Overall Average 7 / 10

The Ruggex Rhino Three is a follow-up to the Ruggex Rugg3, offering a slightly updated version with a newer operating system. It inherits the Rugg3’s rugged design with an IP68 rating for dust and water resistance up to 1 meter for 60 minutes, and MIL-SPEC-810G certification for drop resistance up to 6 feet (1.8 meters).

The Rhino Three maintains the same display size and resolution (4.0-inch IPS LCD, 540 x 960 pixels) as the Rugg3. However, it boasts a slightly more advanced screen protection with Rhino Glass compared to the Rugg3’s Corning Gorilla Glass 3.

The Rhino Three operates on a more up-to-date Google Android 6.0 (Marshmallow) operating system, compared to the Rugg3’s Android 4.4 (KitKat). Internally, it retains the same MediaTek MT6582 quad-core 1.3 GHz processor, 1GB of RAM, and 8GB of expandable storage (via microSD card, which takes up the second SIM card slot).

The camera system on the Rhino Three sees a minor upgrade to a 2MP front-facing camera from the Rugg3’s 1.2MP camera. The rear camera remains the same 8MP single sensor with PDAF and LED flash, capable of recording videos in 720p resolution at 30 fps.

Similar to the Rugg3, the Rhino Three utilizes a Micro USB 2.0 port for charging and data transfer. It comes with a slightly smaller removable battery (2500mAh compared to the Rugg3’s 2800mAh) and boasts a black and silver color scheme.
